This article aims to examine the crucial importance of higher education institutions in the ethical training of future public accountants. Professional ethics, understood as the set of principles and values that guide honest and responsible behavior, is an essential competency in university programs, especially after the financial scandals that have highlighted ethical deficiencies in the accounting profession. This study is based on a qualitative methodology that argues that ethical education should not be limited to the simple transmission of rules or codes of conduct, but should foster critical thinking, moral reflection, and the ability to make ethical decisions in real-world situations. Therefore, universities have an essential role in preparing professionals who are not only technically competent, but also possess a firm ethical commitment, which is fundamental for credibility and transparency in the accounting and financial sector. It is concluded that ethical training is an indispensable pillar for professional development and for preventing conduct that could damage public trust and the proper functioning of the financial system.
