This study provides an approach of geographical research on renewable energy and energy transition in Spain between 2001 and 2024. Its purpose is to characterize the evolution, structure, and dynamics of this scientific field within a context marked by climate urgency and European decarbonization policies. To this end, a bibliometric analysis was conducted on 47 geographical articles indexed under the “Geography” and “Physical Geography” categories in the Web of Science (WoS) database, following the PRISMA protocol and performing co-authorship, co-citation, bibliographic coupling, and keyword co-occurrence analyses using the VOSviewer visualization software. The results reveal a growing trend in scientific production since 2011, with a notable increase in recent years, and a research structure organized around institutional clusters located mainly in southern and central Spain. The predominant thematic lines show a shift from technological approaches towards more integrative perspectives focused on landscape, energy justice, and territorial governance. Overall, this work contributes to establishing an empirical basis for guiding future research, emphasizing the need to pay greater attention to territorial diversity (scales) and to the social, cultural, and landscape dimensions of the energy transition.
