The essay analyzes Giuseppe Berto’s novel La gloria in light of some themes characteristic of Emmanuel Lévinas’s philosophy. In particu-lar, through the study of the representation of the protagonist Judas Iscariot, it addresses the theme of the relationship between being and nothingness, and between ego-centered anonymity and the face open to transcendence. Berto, through the use of nocturnal settings, depicts Judas as a self-contained being, destined to remain a prisoner of an anti-resurrection.
