In the rapid urbanization process under the dichotomy of growth and development, city sustainability is an increasingly crucial issue. Hence, this chapter aims to develop a composite indicator for evaluating urban sustainability. Through a systematic literature review, 28 and then seven articles were included and analyzed; among 130, 114, 40, and 20 identified published sources from 2017 onwards, respectively considering four keywords of urban sustainability, sustainable city, sustainable urban development, and city sustainability. Hence, global and then Chinese perspectives on evaluating urban sustainability have been scrutinized through a comparative analytical review of the available literature and current studies, including methodologies. Therefore, an indicator system was developed based on the three interacted pillars sustainability model, including 34 indicators that could be applied according to data availability and accessibility. Deviation Maximization (DM), Entropy Weight (EW), Grey Relational Analysis (GRA), Induced Ordered Weighted Averaging (IOWA), Objective Coupling Weighting (OCW), Subjective and Objective Weight Integrated Approach (SOWIA), and TOPSIS-based Order Relation Method (TOPSIS-ORM) are effective methods for weighting and aggregating this set of indicators into a composite indicator
