Valencia, España
This article aims to investigate the marital strategies of the nobility in the Kingdom of Valencia at the end of the Middle Ages, specifically in the period between 1380 and 1430, a period that coincides with a time of economic buoyancy and rapid institutional and political transformations shaped by noble feuding. To that end, we investigate how marriages were arranged, paying attention to the intervention of royal power, and the bases of marital unions. This analysis reveals that elements such as the juridical condition and the family status of the bride and groom carried more weight in marriage agreements than the material incentives such as the dowry.
