    Se abordará la primera etapa formativa que tuvo el arquitecto Lorenzo Rodríguez, uno de los artistas más representativos del siglo xviii tanto en México como en España. Se aportarán nuevos horizontes sobre su vida personal y profesional antes de embarcarse a Nueva España.

    Nos apoyaremos en la información custodiada en los archivos para dar sustento a la metodología, que asimismo se verá apoyada teóricamente por las referencias bibliográficas. Con este enfoque daremos a conocer a los artífices que influyeron en su actividad productiva, tanto en la carpintería, como en la cantería y arquitectura, y abriremos nuevas líneas de investigación que nos aportarán un conocimiento más amplio sobre la personalidad de Lorenzo Rodríguez. Igualmente, con este planteamiento podremos entender su formación, aprendizaje y enseñanza en esta primera etapa para comprender su posterior obra realizada en la Ciudad de México, como el Sagrario de la catedral metropolitana.

    This essay addresses the first formative stage of the architect Lorenzo Rodríguez, one of the most representative artists of the 18th century in both Mexico and Spain. New horizons will be brought to his personal and professional life before his settlement in New Spain. We will rely on the information kept in the archives to support the methodology, which will also be theoretically sustained by bibliographic references. With this approach we will make known the craftsmen who influenced his productive activity, both in carpentry, stonemasonry and architecture, and we will open new lines of research that will provide us with broader knowledge about the personality of Lorenzo Rodríguez. Likewise, with this approach we will be able to understand his training, learning and teaching in this first stage to understand his later work carried out in Mexico City, such as the Tabernacle of the metropolitan cathedral.
