    Esta investigación tiene como objeto de estudio una selección de cuatro grabados en la obra del jesuita Matthias Tanner publicados en 1683, que ilustran algunos martirios americanos ocurridos en los siglos xvi y xvii, interpretados como prendas o trofeos de la misión evangelizadora de la Compañía de Jesús. Para este cometido, no solo se abordan sus contenidos iconográficos, también se medita en torno a las funciones e influjo de las mismas en la conformación de la identidad institucional en Europa y las regiones trasatlánticas. Por último, se muestra la interpretación de la realidad americana, la concepción del territorio y su significación en clave simbólica para la agenda política de la Compañía de Jesús en Europa a partir de los testimonios americanos. Todo como parte de la difusión y estudio que hubo de los textos e imágenes generados en América en la definición moderna del fenómeno del martirio, la evangelización y la creación de modelos visuales en el Viejo Continente.

    This investigation has as object of study a selection of four engravings in the work of the Jesuit Matthias Tanner published in 1683, which illustrate the American martyrdoms that occurred in the 16th and 17th centuries, interpreted as pledges or trophies of the evangelizing mission of the Society of Jesus. For this purpose, not only its iconographic contents are addressed, but also its functions and influence in the conformation of the institutional identity in Europe and the transatlantic regions are meditated on. Finally, the interpretation of the American reality is shown, the conception of the territory and its significance in a symbolic key for the political agenda of the Society of Jesus in Europe from the American testimonies. All as part of the dissemination and study of the texts and images generated in America in the modern definition of the phenomenon of martyrdom, evangelization and the creation of visual models in the Old Continent.
