  • Resumen
    • Geography has initiated a strong development of new educational practices. Problem-based learning (PBL) is one of such types. As an active learning process, both the students and the instructors in-volved in this pedagogical approach, experience great benefits. Teachers are facilitators while students take re-sponsibility for their learning and self-encouragement to spend more time studying. This and other important benefits are discussed, but risks are also pointed out when failures may occur with group dynamics in spite of the fact that instructors have worked deligently to create suitable problem scenarios. A PBL example based on a tropical case is presented to demonstrate this active learning process.
