Some towns in the Foreign Part of Mallorca, Inca among them, had so-called hospitals for the poor to meet their own needs and, if applicable, those who were not. A widespread belief is that, with the creation of the General Hospital in 1456, in the City of Mallorca, these foreign hospitals disappeared. This was not the case. Most of them went through a period of decline not only attributable to the appearance of a centralized institution. Rather, the causes were other things such as poor economic administration or the negligence of the authorities responsible for their maintenance.
