  The teaching of the Portuguese Language has for some time becomethe target of effective academic research. This is essentially due to theconstant negative results of the students’ linguistic performance inregular education. In order to contribute to the development of AppliedLinguistics research in Native Language Teaching, we propose toexamine, in light of the functionalist theory, the way textbooks havebeen developing their work with the locative “Where” and adjectivesand adverbs as superlative.

  O trabalho com o ensino de língua portuguesa, já há algum tempo, tem-se tornado causa de efetivas pesquisas acadêmicas. Este fato deve-se, essencialmente, aos constantes resultados negativos acerca do desempenho linguístico dos alunos no ensino regular. Numa tentativa de contribuir com os avanços das pesquisas da Linguística Aplicada ao Ensino da Língua Materna, propomo-nos a analisar, à luz da teoria funcionalista, a maneira como o livro didático vem desenvolvendo o trabalho com o item locativo onde e com a superlativação de adjetivos e advérbios.
