Nuevas aportaciones al concepto de integridad estructural: recordando a Leonardo da Vinci y a Galileo Galilei

    Este artículo se dirige hacia un nuevo concepto de integridad estructural, incluyendo un enfoque novedoso e innovador, ensanchando la amplitud de la definición, y ofreciendo así un análisis multi-nivel cubriendo todas las escalas de longitud en el marco teórico de los términos novedosos de integridad giga-, mega-, macro-, micro- y nano-estructural, y así la ciencia de la mecánica de fractura & integridad estructural puede considerarse como una rama de la ciencia & ingeniería de materiales, y se propone la nueva idea de integridad material (o integridad del material, o integridad estructural del material). Asimismo, el concepto de integridad estructural se amplía a campos como la biología (en la escala de análisis de los virus) o al caso de estructuras conceptuales (no materiales) como obras musicales o literarias (integridad estructural conceptual) , así como a las áreas del comportamiento humano y de la psicología, desarrollando el concepto de integridad estructural personal (o, simplemente, integridad personal), un concepto de naturaleza psicológica que puede oponerse a la idea de fractura (o ruptura) de la personalidad. Se hace énfasis en el enfoque “cervantino” de naturaleza española sobre la base de El Quijote de Miguel de Cervantes, dentro del cual también podía definirse propiamente un enfoque “quijotesco” de los asuntos humanos, y el enfoque “velazqueño”, también de naturaleza española, sobre la base de la obra maestra “La rendición de Breda” pintada por Velázquez. El artículo supone también un emocionado tributo al artista e ingeniero Leonardo da Vinci, así como al físico y matemático Galileo Galilei por sus trabajos pioneros en resistencia de materiales, fractura e integridad estructural.

    This paper is directed towards a new concept of structural integrity, including a novel and forward-looking approach, and broadening the amplitude of the definition, thereby offering a multi-level analysis comprising and covering all length scales in the theoretical framework of the innovative terms of giga-, mega-, macro-, micro- and nano-structural integrity, and thus the science of fracture mechanics & structural integrity can be seen as a branch of material science & engineering, and the novel idea of material integrity (or material structural integrity, or structural integrity of the material) is proposed. In addition, the concept of structural integrity is extended to fields such as the biology (at the length scale of viruses) or to the case of nonmaterial structures such as musical or literature works (conceptual structural integrity), as well as to the areas of human behaviour and psychology, developing the concept of personal structural integrity (or, simply, personal integrity), a concept of psychological nature that can be opposed to the idea of fracture (or rupture) of the personality. Emphasis is made on the “cervantino” approach of Spanish nature on the basis of “Don Quijote” by Miguel de Cervantes, inside which also a “quijotesco” approach of human issues could be properly defined and the “velazqueño” approach, also of Spanish nature, on the basis of the master work “The Surrender of Breda” painted by Velázquez. The paper represents also a heartfelt tribute to the artist and engineer Leonardo da Vinci, as well as to the physicist and mathematician Galileo Galilei for their pioneering works in the fields of material strength, fracture and structural integrity.
