    Este artículo es el resultado de una investigación a partir de la aparición de una documentación encontrada en dos archivos: el Archivo Histórico Municipal de Cáceres) y el Archivo de la Archidiócesis de Extremadura- Obispado de Badajoz. Como se ha demostrado en otras publicaciones, la contribución de las comunidades rurales de Extremadura al esfuerzo de guerra fue un factor decisivo en la lucha contra la invasión napoleónica del país a pesar de verse sometidas sus economías domésticas a un gran nivel de pobreza En el caso de la villa de Valdefuentes (Cáceres) estos protocolos notariales muestran la contribución que tuvieron que realizar sus vecinos al inicio de la contienda (desde septiembre de 1808 a septiembre de 1809) sobre todo en el suministro de pan y harina, dada su especialización en esta rama industrial.

    T his article presents the findings of a research based on documentation recently discovered in two archives: the Historical Municipal Archive of Cáceres and the Archive of the Archdiocese of Extremadura–Badajoz Bishopric. As shown in previous studies, the contribution of rural communities in Extremadura to the war effort proved decisive in resisting the Napoleonic invasion of Spain, despite the severe poverty that afflicted their domestic economies. In the case of the town of Valdefuentes (Cáceres), the notarial records reveal the extent of the contributions its inhabitants were required to make during the initial stages of the conflict (from September 1808 to September 1809), particularly in the supply of bread and flour.

    T hese obligations reflected the town’s long-standing specialisation in this branch of industry and the pivotal role it played in provisioning the army of Extremadura.
