This article presents the progress made in designing and validating a diagnostic instrument aimed at identifying the needs and perceptions of the educational community regarding the integration of environmental education as a cross-cutting axis. The study employed a qualitative approach and incorporated three data collection techniques: semi-structured interviews, focus groups, and a field journal, complemented by expert judgment for content validation. The instrument is organized into five analytical categories: environmental education, sustainable development, curricular mainstreaming, community participation, and pedagogical innovation. Experts assessed item clarity, relevance, and coherence, suggesting adjustments that strengthened the internal structure and contextual suitability of the instrument for rural educational settings. Findings indicate a satisfactory level of content validity and highlight the instrument’s potential for guiding future research and educational practices, particularly those associated with the strengthening of School Environmental Projects (PRAE).
