    Antes de entrar de lleno en el tema central, el artículo analiza las diferentes modalidades del espectáculo circense haciendo hincapié en los contextos histórico y social en que se han creado y desarrollado. Expone la tesis de que no existe la modernidad circense sin una tradición previa y detalla los primeros balbuceos del circo contemporáneo catalán para recorrer luego, con la mirada puesta en algunos aspectos de política cultural, las actuales estructuras que evidencian sus progresos y limitaciones

    Before getting to the core of the matter, the article analyzes the different modalities of the circus as a show, highlighting the historical and social contexts in which they were created and developed. The thesis that there is no circus modernity without a previous tradition is put forward, and the early beginnings of the contemporary Catalan circus are described in detail. The article also reviews the current structures, which are evidence of its progress and limitations, while taking some aspects of cultural policy into account
