Baroque cathedrals did not act as watertight compartments in the musical sphere. Instead, as in other aspects, they were well-integrated into social life, both exerting and assimilating influences from the secular realm. Sacred and secular music coexisted in various spaces and contexts during the 17th century, developing a fruitful relationship. This study argues the ways in which musical exchanges were possible between Seville Cathedral and the city, paying attention to the characteristics of the urban music market. Furthermore, it outlines the main ways in which these influences manifested themselves during the 17th century.
