    La informació fins ara existent sobre l’avi patern de Santiago Rusiñol, Jaume Rusiñol (1807-1887), es basa, sobretot, en la visió que en va donar l’artista a la seva novel·la i obra de teatre L’Auca del senyor Esteve. La descripció del personatge ha estat ampliada per diversos estudiosos de Rusiñol, de manera incompleta i imprecisa a causa de la dificultat per obtenir-ne dades biogràfiques. El present estudi aprofundeix en el recorregut vital del primer membre de la saga nascut a Manlleu, el creador de la fortuna dels Rusiñol i familiar més influent sobre Santiago Rusiñol; però especialment evidencia, amb dades inèdites, un model de lluita i superació excepcional, alhora que un final immerescut, fins ara desconegut.

    Information available until now about Santiago Rusiñol’s paternal grandfather, Jaume Rusiñol (1807-1887), is based mostly on the depiction given by the artist in his novel and play L’Auca del senyor Esteve. The character’s description has been expanded by various studies on Rusiñol, though not completely nor in detail due to the limited biographical data. This study examines the life trajectory of the first member of the saga born in Manlleu, founder of the Rusiñol fortune and relative who most influenced Santiago Rusiñol; and also brings to light, with hitherto unpublished data, an exceptional example of struggle and overcoming, and at the same time an undeserved end not known until now.
