In recent years, the need to reconvert regional economies towards new models centred on well- being and, at the same time, capable of facing the challenges of post-industrial societies and ecological transition has become evident. In particular, the Valencian productive model, with a strong emphasis on the hotel and catering industry and tourism, has been strongly questioned. The Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) have attracted growing interest in this respect, and have been identified as a potential vector for the generation of well-being. In order to obtain quantitative evidence of the effects of these industries on different dimensions of well-being (in particular, those defined by the OECD Better Life Index), an analysis has been carried out for 209 European regions using machine learning techniques with causal inference. In the Valencian Country, the effects are generally positive, and are especially notable and higher than the Spanish and European average in education, income and work, among others. Consequently, CCIs are a potential vector of regional development that should be taken into account and that can play a decisive role in the reconversion of the Valencian production model towards a model focused on the well-being of the population.
