Resumen de Godos y getas en la historiografía de la Tardoantigüedad y del Medievo: un problema de identidad y de legitimación sociopolítica

La identificación o confusión entre la historia de los godos y la de los getas en las obras de diversos autores de la Antigüedad Tardía y de la Edad Media, desde Orosio y Jordanes hasta Alfonso X el Sabio, es analizada en estas páginas desde sus orígenes hasta su fijación en la historia legendaria española. Mitos, leyendas e historia de otros pueblos fueron incorporados a la historia de los godos como una forma de engrandecimiento de su pasado, de justificación y de legitimación social y política. Al asentarse los visigodos en Hispania y formarse la idea de nación gótica con Isidoro de Sevilla, parte de la historia de los getas y de los dacios quedará incorporada a la historia nacional española.

The identification or confusion between the Gothic and Getic history in the works of different authors of the Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, from Orosius and Jordanes to Alfonso X «the Wise», is analyzed in these pages from its origins to its fixing in the Spanish legendary history. Myths, legends and history of other peoples were incorporated to the Gothic history like a way of exaltation of its past, of justification and of social and political legitimation. When Goths settled in Hispania and the gothic nation idea is developed with Isidoro of Sevilla, a part of the Getic and Dacian history will remain incorporated in the Spanish national history.
