The aim of this study is to analyze the prediction of burnout and engagement at workfrom both ergonomic (environmental conditions, posture, repetitive movements andhandling charges) and psychosocial (job demands, and job and personal resources)factors in 183 workers belonging to 9 companies in the construction sector (100% male, mean age 38 years old, SD = 11.5). Data were collected through questionnaires andwere administered via semi-structured interview in group sessions. The results from aGeneral Linear Model showed that burnout is predicted by factors both ergonomic(postural conditions, predicting the three dimensions of burnout) and psychosocial (thepresence of role ambiguity demand predicts emotional exhaustion and inefficiency, andlack of a resource such as good interpersonal relations, predicts inefficiency). Inaddition, good interpersonal relationships predict one dimension of the engagement, vigour. Results are discussed in light of the importance of taking into account bothpsychosocial and ergonomic factors, namely the analysis of the positions in theprevention of burnout and the amplification of engagement in the construction workers.
