Recent evolution of the Catalan public healthcare system is characterized by a newapproach to healthcare management and restructuring of its social health services.Hospitals have proved to be the most sensitive subjects to these changes. Theimplementation of new medical technologies, the establishment of a new organizationalstructure to better attend the demand for quality and new services, and the adoption ofmanagement practices from the private sector characterized this evolution. In this studywe analyze the labour subjectivity of healthcare professionals of five public hospitalsfrom Barcelona facing these organizational changes. A qualitative analysis has beenperformed with in-depth and exploratory thematic content analysis using CAQDAS.The results show a labour subjectivity characterized by job dissatisfaction, stress andpessimistic expectations for improvement, due to limited number of human resources, work overload, low participation in decision making, lack of support from topmanagement and organizational slack.
