    En el artículo se hace la exposición de libro tercero del De libero arbitrio, no solo para conocer las partes que tiene y sus principales argumentos, sino también para intentar descubrir cómo las afirmaciones de san Agustín en este último libro del De libero arbitrio se volverán claves para comprender los alcances de su lucha posterior con los herejes, particularmente con los pelagiano, quienes citaban contra san Agustín textos de este libro tercero. De modo particular el artículo aborda el tema de la potestas que se volverá central en el debate de san Agustín con los pelagianos.

    This article examines the third book of *De libero arbitrio*, not only to outline its structure and main arguments, but also to explore how St Augustine’s assertions in this final book of *De libero arbitrio* prove crucial to understanding the scope of his subsequent struggle with heretics, particularly the Pelagians, who cited passages from this third book against him. In particular, the article addresses the theme of potestas, which would become central to St Augustine’s debate with the Pelagians.
