    El presente artículo tiene como objetivo analizar las transformaciones acontecidas en las estructuras asistenciales guipuzcoanas entre los siglos XVIII y XIX. Se estudiarán los cambios sufridos por la red hospitalaria constituida a lo largo del siglo XVI, se prestará atención a sus características durante el siglo XVIII y se valorarán los efectos que las reformas ilustradas tuvieron sobre ella. De la misma forma, se pondrá de relieve el importante papel desempeñado por los hospicios que, en Guipúzcoa, tuvieron la particularidad de no ser solo espacios asilares, sino también importantes centros hospitalarios. Poco a poco, fue culminando un proceso por el cual se redujo el número de instituciones benéficas, eso sí, dando lugar a una mayor concentración de recursos en los restantes, permitiendo una superior capacidad asistencial.

    The aim of this article is to analyse the profound transformations that took place in the welfare structures in Gipuzkoa between the 18th and 19th centuries. The changes that the hospital network underwent during the 16th century will be studied, attention will be paid to its characteristics during the 18th century and the effects that the Enlightenment reforms had on it will be assessed. In the same way, the important role played by the hospices in Gipuzkoa, which had the particularity of not only being asylum spaces, but also important hospital centres, will also be highlighted. Gradually, a process was culminating in which the number of care institutions was reduced, although this did lead to a greater concentration of resources in the remaining ones, allowing for a greater care capacity.
