  • While acknowledging the fact that non-literary translation has gained prominence in a world dominated by politics, this study will provide some insight on how technical translation, despite being distinguished from other forms of translation by terminology, the latter usually only accounts for only 5-10% of a text. The American politics and its terminology are strongly linked to the culture of the system they represent. Therefore, translation is not a mere transposition of messages devoid of the long-standi ng cultural tradition of the elephant and the donkey, the White House and the Capitol, the smoke-filled rooms and whistle-stop tours. As translators struggle to “build the bridge over the pond”, culture, “this belle infidèle”, tends to play tricks and make the road much more slippery.The terms under analysis are part of the Political Terminology Translation course as taught to III-year bachelor students of the Translation and Interpreting Branch, Faculty of Foreign Languages.
