    O artigo explora os contextos cognitivos de ordem teológica que cooperam no entendimento da Geografia Regional como saber de síntese e guiada pela metáfora sinfônica. O material teológico é representado pela obra 'Os divinos institutos' (livro I capítulos 3 a 6), de Lactancius. Do ponto de vista da Geografia, são consideradas as características da Geografia Regional na sua primeira face moderna, configurada  quando da institucionalização ao final do século XIX e inícios do século XX.

    The purpose of the present article is to explore the cognitive theological contexts that help to understand the modern Regional Geograpy as a discipline of synthesis. The theological material is represented by The Book I Chapter 3-6 of The Divine Institutes, by Lucius Caecilius Firmianus Lactancius (260?-330? dC). The conceptual and methodological character of the Regional Geography –as a discipline of synthesis guided by the symphonic metaphor –in the late 19 andearly 20st century is exposed and, in the follow, it is showed how both intellectual experiences overlap.
