Excavaciones en la trama urbana de la civitas maggavi, yacimiento de la capilla de Santa María de Mave (Aguilar de Campoo, Palencia)

    La investigación geofísica realizada en los años 2018 y 2019, junto con los datos de las excavaciones de 2017 y de 1967, revelaron la existencia en la vega del río Pisuerga de un asentamiento romano de tamaño intermedio con estructura urbana, articulado por la vía de unión entre la Meseta y Cantabria. Estos datos nos permitieron defender su identificación con la civitas Maggavi y su naturaleza de ciudad dispersa. En 2022 realizamos una campaña de sondeos para datar las estructuras urbanas desveladas por esas prospecciones geofísicas y asignarlas a algunas de las fases del yacimiento. El objeto de este artículo es la presentación y análisis de los resultados de esos sondeos, que básicamente nos sitúan ante una trama urbana altoimperial.

    Geophysical research carried out in 2018 and 2019, together with the data from the excavations in 2017 and 1967, revealed the existence of a Roman settlement in the fertile plain of the Pisuerga River. It was of intermediate siza with an urban structure, articulated by the road linking the Meseta and Cantabria. These data supported its identification with the civitas Maggavi and its nature as a dispersed city. In 2022, we carried out soundings to date the urban structures revealed by these geophysical surveys and to assign them to some of the phases of the site. The purpose of this article is to present and analyse the results of these soundings, wich basically place us in the presence of a High-Imperial urban fabric.
