According to the National Plan on Drugs of Spain (2007) a high percentage of teensdeclare to be sufficiently informed about the consequences of substance use. However, risk perceptions of certain substances is moderate or low. When the informationprovided in programs focus on irrelevant details or long-term negative consequencescan have an opposite effect (Bruvold, 1993; Maciá, 2000). In this study, the relationshipbetween the level of knowledge about the immediate negative consequences ofsubstance use and risk perception is analysed. The Knowledge Questionnaire (Espadaand Méndez, 2001) was administered to a sample of high school students. The resultsindicate the existence of relationship between the level of knowledge and the perceptionof danger using MDMA, cannabis and tobacco, are not significant differences betweenthe level of information and perception of danger linked to alcohol and LSD.
