    Conxo fue durante el siglo xix y buena parte del xx el gran manicomio del noroeste de España. Tras sus muros terminaron, entre su fundación en 1885 y el inicio del siglo xx, un puñado de mujeres diagnosticadas de histeria. Esta enfermedad resulta particularmente interesante desde un punto de vista de género, pues se relaciona directamente con los roles establecidos para hombres y mujeres durante ese periodo. El análisis de las historias clínicas que de ellas se conservan permite intuir, ante la ausencia de síntomas concretos en varias de ellas, que en su reclusión también desempeñaron un papel importante las transgresiones a los roles de género de la época que algunas de estas mujeres plantearon.

    During the 19th century and much of the 20th century, Conxo was the great asylum in northwest Spain. Between its founding in 1885 and the beginning of the 20th century, a handful of women diagnosed with hysteria ended up behind its walls. This disease is particularly interesting from a gender point of view, since it is directly related to the roles established for men and women during that period. The analysis of the medical records preserved from them allows us to intuit, in the absence of specific symptoms in several of them, that transgressions by some of these women of the gender roles of the time also came into play in their confinement.
