    A partir de la figura del lector, implícita en El material humano, este artículo explora la capacidad de Rodrigo Rey Rosa para situarse en una posición ambivalente entre lector y escritor. Esto le permite trasladar a la literatura el hallazgo fortuito de la serie de fichas que integran el Gabinete de Identificación, un archivo resguardado y ordenado por la Policía Nacional de Guatemala. Para encontrar significaciones históricas a este hallazgo, Rey Rosa decide narrar el archivo. Esta decisión permite al autor explorar las consecuencias de dicho violento proceso de fichaje para el presente convulso de su país natal. Para definir este procedimiento de lectura, recurriré a Borges, Piglia y Vila-Matas como referentes intelectuales del acto de escritura-lectura, en tanto método de comprensión del mundo. Las reflexiones de Foucault, Hartog y Rivera Garza en torno al archivo y la historia también serán relevantes para entender el trabajo de quien se enfrenta a la historia desde su propia escritura.

    Using the implicit figure of “reader” within El material humano, this article explores Rodrigo Rey Rosa’s ability to place himself in an ambivalent position between reader and writer. That allows him to transfer to literature the fortuitous discovery of the series of files that forms the Identification Cabinet, an archive safeguarded and organized by the Guatemalan National Police. To find the historical meanings for this discovery, Rey Rosa decides to narrate the archive. This decision allows the author to explore the consequences of this violent process of filing for the turbulent present of his native country. To define this reading procedure, I will turn to Borges, Piglia, and Vila-Matas as intellectual references for the act of writing-reading as a method of understanding the world. The reflections of Foucault, Hartog and Rivera Garza on the archive and history will also be relevant for understanding the work of those who confront history through their own writing.
