This work originates from a Brazilian doctoral thesis, in progress (in the final phase), in thefield of Social Work, entitled Leisure: Existence and Resistance of the Working Class in theContemporary Capitalism. The objective of the thesis was to understand the role of leisurein the lives of workers and, for this purpose the method used was Thematic Oral History, and ten collaborators have been interviewed. The thesis is structured into six chapters: thefirst on Leisure; the second on Work; the third on Care of the Self; the fourth on Oral History(with emphasis on Thematic Oral History); the fifth is on the collaborators’ narratives; andthe sixth presents the research findings. We emphasie that this work has been presented atthe XIX International Scientific Meeting Otium: Leisure and Slow Culture in the DigitalEra, is entitled Leisure and Care of the Self: Resistance to Alienated Work in ContemporaryDigital, and is a reflection contained throughout the thesis where we reflect on the exploitation of workers, in which digital laborstands out, resulting in mental sufferin, which demands resistance, that can be exercised through self-practices instruments, such as AutotelicLeisure, inspired by Aristotle, and Care of the Self, developed by Michel Foucaul, whichare closely related. Furthermore, it is a pioneering research on Leisure within the Brazilianfield of Social Work, and it holds great relevance, considering that the category of work isextensively discussed in this area of knowledge.
