La traducción de "Purgatorio" II y la "Pregunta y Respuesta" de Diego de Burgos y Pedro Fernández de Villegas en NH1

    Me centraré aquí en el estudio de tres piezas transmitidas al final del Ms. HS B2183 (NH1): tres coplas que representan el comienzo de la traducción del canto II del Purgatorio y la Pregunta de Diego de Burgos a don Yñigo de la Çerda fijo del duque de Medinaçeli y la Respuesta del arcediano de Burgos Fernández de Villegas. Estas piezas corresponderían a un estadio de copia posterior al del resto del manuscrito, pues la mano que las copia es diversa a la que copió la traducción del Infierno de Fernández de Villegas y del canto I del Purgatorio y del Paraíso. Luego de una descripción codicológica y paleográfica del códice, que intentará corregir los datos hasta ahora conocidos, se realizará un estudio paleográfico de la mano que interviene en los últimos folios, que la pondrá en relación con la que culmina el prólogo y la que realiza glosas marginales en Purg. I y Par. I, lo cual permitirá extraer conclusiones sobre la confección del códice y avanzar hipótesis sobre su autor. Con este mismo fin se analizarán los mecanismos de traducción implicados en las tres coplas de Purg. II, así como el contenido de las glosas marginales mencionadas, análisis que permitiría concluir que su autor y copista fue el mismo Villegas. Finalmente, se analizará literariamente la Pregunta y Respuesta, lo cual permitirá echar luz sobre la obra de Diego de Burgos, y su relación literaria con Pedro Fernández de Villegas, de la que es testigo no solo NH1, sino también el apéndice de 15VD.

    In this article, I will focus on three texts transmitted at the end of Ms. HS B2183 (NH1): three couplets that represent the beginning of the translation of canto II of the Purgatorio and the Pregunta de Diego de Burgos a don Yñigo de la Çerda fijo del duque de Medinaçeli and the Respuesta del arcediano de Burgos, Fernández de Villegas. These texts were copied later than the rest of the codex, as the hand that copied them is different from the one that copied Fernández de Villegas’ translation of the Inferno and of canto I of Purgatorio and Paradiso. After a codicological and paleographic description of the codex, which will attempt to correct some of the hitherto known data, I will carry out a paleographic study of the hand that intervenes in the last folios, relating it to the hand that completes the prologue and glosses of Purg. I and Par. I. Thus we can draw conclusions about the making of the codex and advance hypotheses about its author. Moreover, I will analyze the translation mechanisms involved in the three couplets of Purg. II, as well as the content of the marginal glosses, all of which suggests that their author and copyist was Villegas himself. Finally, the literary analysis of the Pregunta y Respuesta will shed light on the work of Diego de Burgos, and his literary relationship with Pedro Fernández de Villegas, which is attested to not only by NH1, but also in the appendix of 15VD.
