In June 1529, Charles V travelled to Bologna to fulfil his great wish: to be crowned emperor. The preparation for this event transformed the city into a feverish building site, engaged in the staging of the exhibition of power through symbolic and allegorical contents highlighted in the many ephem-eral apparatuses constructed. The numerous written chronicles relating to this episode provide rich information about the events that took place and allow us to assess the urban transformation that took place.
