  • Resumen
    • This chapter is aimed at analyzing those physical-education-based interventions, supported by the scientific literature, that have demonstrated effects on preschool children's different competences (motor, cognitive, and socioemotional), as well as physical activity level, when they present special educational needs. Scientific literature highlights that physical education (PE) has positive effects on the motor competence of children with Down syndrome, developmental delays, motor development disorders, and autism spectrum disorder, while future studies are needed which consider children with hearing impairment. PE fosters an improvement in the physical activity level of children with Down syndrome and developmental delays. Although PE has shown positive effects on children with special educational needs belonging to the preschool education stage in their cognitive and socioemotional competences, future studies are needed to corroborate these findings.
