Seeking ways to promote children's full motor development means considering human complexity and its context from an interdisciplinary perspective. Programming an optimal stimulus to promote children's motor development is crucial because if it falls below or goes above the adequate levels, it could lead to negative consequences. Considering the different aspects of motor development through the ties between the different research areas, this chapter takes a broad, pedagogical perspective and offers a scientific foundation to clarify the concepts of motor development and motor competence. It also guides readers through the important updated principles and suggests practical and realistic pedagogical strategies for promoting this competence in early childhood.
