  Desde el oscurecimiento de los cielos europeos ocasionado por un manto de cenizas volcánicas hasta el encuentro con una expedición científica en el frio y desolado paisaje del polo norte, diversos sucesos históricos acaecidos en la Europa a inicios del siglo decimonónico (XIX) trascenderían en la vida de la autora Mary Shelley y en el proceso de creación de su obra clásica de Frankenstein o el moderno Prometeo. Experimentos científicos controversiales con electricidad, los incipientes conocimientos en alquimia y la influencia de corrientes artísticas contribuirían primero en el proceso demiúrgico de la novela y luego en sus adaptaciones cinematográficas. El texto ha sido objeto de interés y debate medico en distintos temas de bioética como la creación de la vida y la ambición científica. La obra señala la importancia de la necesidad de una orientación científica y religiosa apropiada en un mundo en constante cambios tecnológicos
