    • This article discusses the life and writings of a Hispanist with many talents and varied interests, from Lacanian philosophy to the Beatles and Rock ‘n’ Roll, but who specialized in Golden-Age drama—particularly Calderón. Dealt with here in some detail, Henry Sullivan’s magnum opus, Calderón in the German Lands and the Low Countries: His Reception and Influence, 1654–1980 (Cambridge: Cambridge U. P., 1983) has proved to be an indispensable source of knowledge and inspiration for all scholars of Early Modern European theatre.
