The subject of this paper is a special construction used intermittently by writers of ancient Greek. It appears in relative clauses containing both a participle and a main verb structured in a particular way. The structure achieves a significant stylistic effect. Specimens of the construction in Classical Greek are presented first, then post-Classical evidence up to the second century BCE. The post-Classical evidence indicates that it was a higherregister feature showing skill in writing quality Greek. The discussion then turns to the LXX and the NT, and the noteworthy fact that the construction occurs there. It is found twice in LXX Leviticus and elsewhere only in the literary books. The NT shows similar phenomena, with one instance in Matthew's Gospel and several in Acts and the Epistles.
