    El célebre escritor cántabro José María de Pereda tomó rasgos del dialecto montañés para caracterizar principalmente el habla de sus personajes rústicos, si bien distintos estudiosos han concluido que el habla popular perediana es más un lenguaje artificial basado en el cántabro que una reproducción fiel y coherente del mismo. El objetivo de este artículo es analizar las dos novelas ambientadas en Polanco, pueblo natal del escritor, e identificar los rasgos y voces dialectales de los que hizo uso para crear tal lenguaje, aparentemente realista, en los niveles fónico, morfosintáctico y léxico

    The famous Cantabrian writer José María de Pereda took features of the Cantabrian dialect to mainly characterize the speech of his rural characters, although different scholars have concluded that such speech created by Pereda is more of an artificial language based on the dialect than a faithful and coherent reproduction of it. The objective of this article is to analyze the two novels set in Polanco, the writer’s hometown, and identify the dialect features and words that he used to create such language, seemingly realistic, at the phonic, morphosyntactic and lexical levels.
