    El artículo presenta un análisis y una reflexión del estado actual del Centro Histórico de Barranquilla, Bien de Interés Cultural del Ámbito Nacional. A partir de la observación actual del sitio con criterios arquitectónicos y urbanísticos, y el análisis en perspectiva histórica con fuentes primarias y secundarias, se muestran y evalúan los hechos y elementos que han contribuido y contribuyen a su deterioro físico y ambiental. Concluimos que a pesar de que desde hace un tiempo han sido llevadas a cabo algunas acciones para su recuperación integral, estas no han logrado ser completamente efectivas, lo cual contribuye a un deterioro sostenido y a la pérdida de representación identitaria.

    The article provides an analysis and reflection on the current state of Bar-ranquilla’s Historic Centre, a National Cultural Heritage site. The factors and elements that have contributed to and continue to cause its physical and environmental deteri-oration are identified and evaluated drawing on present-day observation of the area by the use of architectural and urban criteria, as well as on a historical analysis based on primary and secondary sources. We conclude that, despite some measures for its comprehensive recovery that have been implemented for some time, they have not been proven fully effective, thereby contributing to ongoing deterioration and to the erosion of its identity representation.
