The research presented here is the result of a study carried out within the framework of the educational innovation projects of the University of Malaga. It has been carried out over two academic years in the degree of Graduate in History of Art. It has had a previous experimentation phase of approximately five months in which the activity has been thought and designed. In other words, it explains the process of converting an idea into a training activity developed with students during the academic years 2021 to 2023 but devised during the academic year 2020/2021 when online teaching prevailed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The main objective is the acquisition of digital competences that allow students to transfer the contents learned to the communicative channels of their environment. Therefore, the most relevant aspect of this study is that, because of the circumstances and of having to adapt contents and activities to online teaching, new tools and resources emerge that allow for informal learning and the possibility of creating a highly motivating activity for students. How? By using what they often have in their hands, -a smartphone-, and one of the most popular instant messaging Apps, -WhatsApp-, converting the “States” into a place for the exchange of knowledge on the part of our students. The evolution of the idea, the objectives, the methodology used, the process and the results are shown in detail.
