  • Resumen
    • After a discussion on the value of inconstancy, both erotic and existential, in Le Printemps, we demonstrate that instability even impacts the structures of language. We suggest to make it a characteristic feature of the «folâtre» style that the poet tries in this collection. By reviewing three major metapoetic pieces, the «Préface», the Ode XXVI and the «Poème de l’Inconstance», we reflect upon d’Aubigné’s conception of language in its relationship to the rhetorical simplicity requirement, to metaphorical thinking, to the mechanisms of linguistic fixedness and to iconicity. A word alchemist, an arsonist of images and a soldier of eloquence from the heart, d’Aubigné violently criticizes the deceptions of speech. Perhaps what sets him apart from Ronsard and his contemporaries is his hyper-sensitivity to the intensity of human experience, which always makes speaking null and void.
