    Sensibilizar a la sociedad española sobre la importancia de la defensa comoinstrumento para garantizar la paz, la seguridad, el bienestar y el disfrute delos derechos que contempla nuestra Constitución, requiere incorporar al sistema educativo unos conceptos básicos que permitan a los escolares conocer yapreciar esos valores. Se hace un recorrido de los pasos que se han ido dandoen esa dirección desde que la Ley Orgánica de Educación creó en el año 2006la asignatura Educación para la Ciudadanía y los derechos humanos. Se recogenlas recomendaciones hechas por el Senado instando al Gobierno a incorporartemas relacionados con la defensa y las misiones de las Fuerzas Armadas en losdistintos niveles educativos, y se señalan las actuaciones puestas en marcha porlos Ministerios de Educación y Defensa en Educación Primaria y Secundaria, asícomo las posibles nuevas iniciativas a adoptar con este objetivo.

    raising awareness of the spanish society about the importance of defence,as an instrument to guarantee peace, security, wellbeing and the constitutionalrights, requires the introduction of basic concepts in the educational system, toallow young students to know and appraise those values. Steps taken in that direction, since the subject Education for Citizenship and human rights was createdby the Education Law in 2006, are duly described. The recommendations madeby the Senate, urging the Government to incorporate issues related to the defenceand the missions of the Armed forces at different educational levels, includingthe actions put in place by the Ministries of Education and Defence in Primary and Secondary Education, are also explained, as well as possible new initiativesto be undertaken with this aim.
