The depression north to the medieval town of Ferrara was partially settled by several late Medieval “borghi”. The area was then involved, during the 15th century, into the tracing by the Este of large parks, the geometry of which influenced the structure of the following Renaissance urban expansion, showing multiple geometric alignments and focal points. The research is based on the analysis of Lidar altimetry, satellite imagery, ancient cartography, and written sources.
