    Afrontar la función de las bibliotecas conventuales en el momento presente es el reto al que se enfrentan hoy las órdenes religiosas. Poner en valor el excepcional patrimonio aprovechando los recursos técnicos, es el desafío que es necesario afrontar. Es necesario que las comunidades religiosas reconozcan en su patrimonio bibliográfico una parte fundamental de su propia identidad institucional y que desde este reconocimiento establezcan el diseño de proyectos técnicos de gestión, conservación y difusión de su legado bibliográfico abriéndolos a una nueva sociedad de la información donde inevitablemente conviven. Proponer espacios culturales y actividades expositivas, llegar a acuerdos con organismos públicos que faciliten la difusión en red del Patrimonio bibliográfico y den visibilidad al magnífico legado cultural que atesoran es el nuevo reto al que se enfrentan las bibliotecas carmelitas sin perder por ello su legado histórico, su identidad y el valor de su tradición. En definitiva, dar un nuevo sentido a la biblioteca conventual haciéndola generadora de nuevos espacios culturales para la institución religiosa.

    Facing up to the function of convent libraries at the present time is the challenge facing re-ligious orders today. To enhance the value of their exceptional heritage by taking advanta-ge of technical resources is the challenge that needs to be faced. It is necessary for religious communities to recognise their bibliographical heritage as a fundamental part of their own institutional identity and, based on this recognition, to establish the design of technical projects for the management, conservation and dissemination of their bibliographical lega-cy, opening them up to a new information society in which they inevitably coexist. Propo-sing cultural spaces and exhibition activities, reaching agreements with public bodies that facilitate the networked dissemination of the bibliographic heritage and give visibility to the magnificent cultural legacy they treasure is the new challenge facing Carmelite libra-ries without losing their historical legacy, their identity and the value of their tradition. In short, to give a new meaning to the convent library, making it a generator of new cultural spaces for the religious institution.
