Resumen de Determination of the technical and economic optimum in piglet production under a semi-technified system: Economical optimums in piglets

Samuel Rebollar Rebollar, Germán Gómez Tenorio, Héctor Hugo Velázquez Villalva

  • Objective: To estimate the optimal technical and economic levels in the semi-technified production of piglets according to the number of farrowings. Design/methodology/approach: A linear additive statistical model was used for the parameters and a nonlinear statistical model for the variables (cubic model), with field data from a semi-technified farm located in Temascaltepec, State of Mexico in 2023. The dependent variable was the number of piglets and the independent variable was the number of farrowings. Results: At the technical optimum level the number of farrowings was 2.54, the maximum piglet production was 10,4749 and the cash gain was $2,974.9. At the economic optimum level, the number of farrowings was 2.43 equivalent to a production of 10,4731 piglets and a cash gain of $3,298.1 Limitations on study/implications: In this type of work, the technical optimum is very close to the economic optimum. Findings/conclusions: The point of maximum piglet production at weaning did not necessarily mean maximum cash gain at sale.
