Although there is a growing awareness of storytelling and brand humanization today, there is still a lack of integration of this concept into the positioning strategies of local entrepreneurs. These players, generally with limited financial and personnel resources, are constrained by the need to establish credibility while clearly distinguishing themselves from well-established incumbents in both mature and rapidly evolving digital markets.

The objective of this paper is to conduct an advanced critical literature review to compile and refine these concepts, constructing a theoretical framework (the levels of strategies) and providing avenues for future research that could be useful in building this framework. A form of critical literature review with conceptual synthesis was conducted on a set of more than 20 academic and professional sources.

The research shows that brand positioning for startups is an inherently dynamic process co-created with the public. Humanization and storytelling techniques are essential for creating emotional connections, which lead to loyalty, trust, and a sustainable competitive advantage. The taxonomy identifies four categories of humanized storytelling strategies, based on the nature of the story and the intended association.

The findings of this research advance marketing theory through a holistic lens, having tangible ramifications for practitioners and offering an agenda for future academic studies.
