Resumen de Espacios rupestres de escritura: El caso del santuario celtibérico de Peñalba de Villastar

El propósito de estas páginas es reflexionar sobre el uso de la escritura en el santuario celtibérico a cielo abierto de Peñalba, Villastar (Teruel), un espacio singular por contener algunas de las contadas inscripciones celtibéricas sobre cuyo carácter religioso parece existir acuerdo entre los investigadores. Además, encierra el interés adicional de situarse en el contexto de cambio cultural que en el tránsito del siglo I a.E. al I d.E. supuso, por un lado, la substitución de la lengua y la escritura epicóricas por las latinas, y, por otro, la introducción de nuevas funciones para la escritura entre las que merece ser destacado su empleo – con un cierto valor ‘performativo’ – en la práctica cultual, una función propia de la cultura epigráfica romana desde fechas tempranas pero inédita hasta ese momento en la celtibérica.

The purpose of this paper is to reflect on the use of writing in the open-air Celtiberian sanctuary of Peñalba, Villastar (Teruel), a unique space for containing some of the few Celtiberian inscriptions on whose religious character there seems to be agreement among researchers and which, besides this, contains the additional interest of being situated in the context of cultural change that occurred in the transition from the 1st century BCE to the 1st century CE and which meant, on the one hand, the substitution of the epicoric language and writing for Latin ones, and, on the other, the introduction of new functions for writing among which its use in cult practice – with a certain ‘performative’ value – deserves to be highlighted, since this is a function typical of Roman epigraphic culture from early dates but not attested until that moment in Celtiberian inscriptions.
