    Los mercados eléctricos han evolucionado no solo en los productos que ofrecen, sino que también en cómo se coordinan a través de lo que hemos deno-minado el Operador del Sistema. En este capítulo se analizan los tipos de estructuras de Operadores que existen en los mercados eléctricos mundiales y cómo ha sido su evolución de Chile, siendo Chile el primer país del mundo en implementarlos. Actual-mente, Chile cuenta con el Coordinador Eléctrico Nacional, quien actualmente desarrolla una serie de funciones de coordinación, y, por sobre todo, avanzó hacia independencia total de los agentes del mercado. Sin embargo, no se puede olvidar que el origen de estos organismos está relacionado con la coordinación de la operación y acceso abierto al sistema eléctrico para empresas generadoras y de transporte, permitiendo un mercado eficiente que, en definitiva, beneficie al consumidor final. En ese sentido, si bien actualmente el Coordinador se ha ganado un lugar de excelencia a nivel nacional e internacional, de todas formas, se pueden buscar ajustes a su estructura y así no perder de vista los objetivos básicos de todo Operador del Sistema.

    Electricity markets have evolved not only in the products they offer but also in how they are coordinated through what we call the System Operator. This chapter analyzes the types of System Operator structures that exist in various global electricity markets and how Chile has evolved in this regard, being the first country in the world to implement such entities. Currently, Chile has the National Electrical Coordinator, which performs a range of coordination functions and has notably achieved full independence from market participants. However, it is essential to remember that the origin of these entities is linked to the coordination of operations and open access to the electrical system for generation and transmission companies, allowing for an efficient market that ultimately benefits the end consumer. In this context, although the Coordinator has gained a place of excellence at both national and international levels, adjustments to its structure may still be sought to ensure that the fundamental objectives of any System Operator are not overlooked.
