    Colombia ocupa el primer lugar en especies de aves y orquídeas en el mundo. Aprovechando que el avistamiento de aves en el municipio de Santa María (Boyacá) es de alto impacto por la presencia de investigadores, aficionados, turistas y curiosos, se vio la oportunidad de relacionar esta actividad con la formación para que los estudiantes de la Sede Rural de la Vereda Planadas, quienes estando en el medio, no se identifican con él. Por tanto, se plantea el objetivo para identificar cómo a través del avistamiento de aves se puede mejorar el aprendizaje en el área de ciencias naturales, que incentive la educación ambiental y el cuidado del ecosistema. A partir de un método cualitativo, de alcance exploratorio, a una población definida, mediante una entrevista estructurada, que fue validada por expertos. Los resultados llevan a que tanto las familias, docentes y expertos entrevistados ven la estrategia pedagógica del avistamiento de aves como algo útil, efectivo y provechoso que permite concientizar a los estudiantes por mantener el contacto directo con la naturaleza, identificarse con ella, permitiéndoles construir junto a sus familias experiencias contextualizadas para conocer, reconocer, cuidar y aprender sobre las especies de aves que los rodean, a ser observadores como principio motivador hacia la investigación en la edad temprana y luego sean generadores de conocimiento.

    Colombia ranks first in the world in bird and orchid species. Taking advantage of the high impact of birdwatching in the municipality of Santa María (Boyacá), due to the presence of researchers, enthusiasts, tourists, and curious visitors, an opportunity arose to link this activity with education. The aim was to help students from the rural campus in the village of Planadas, who despite living in this environment, often do not identify with it. Therefore, the objective was to identify how birdwatching can enhance learning in the area of natural sciences, promote environmental education, and foster ecosystem care. A qualitative, exploratory approach was used with a defined population, through a structured interview validated by experts. The results show that families, teachers, and interviewed experts view birdwatching as a useful, effective, and beneficial pedagogical strategy. It raises student awareness by encouraging direct contact with nature and fostering identification with their environment. This allows students, together with their families, to build contextualized experiences to know, recognize, care for, and learn about the bird species around them. Birdwatching also promotes observation as a motivating principle for early-age research, leading them to become knowledge generators.
