Resumen de Rafael Cervera y el coleccionismo numismático en España en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX

La colección de moneda antigua de Rafael Cervera fue una de las más importantes y completas entre las que se formaron en España en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Fue comprada por Archer M. Huntington y depositada en la Hispanic Society of America, y de allí se transfirió posteriormente a la American Numismatic Society (Nueva York). En el Instituto Valencia de Don Juan se conserva un álbum de improntas confeccionado por Antonio Vives, y en la American Numismatic Society un catálogo manuscrito de las monedas con el nombre de los propietarios originales. En este artículo se estudia, a partir de dicho catálogo, la composición y el proceso de formación del monetario de Cervera en el contexto del coleccionismo numismático español de finales del siglo XIX.

The Rafael Cervera collection of ancient coins is one of the most important and complete among those that were formed in Spain during the second half of the nineteenth century. It was bougth by Archer M. Huntington who entrusted it to the Hispanic Society of America. It was later transferred to the American Numismatic Society (New York). The album of rubbings elaborated by Antonio Vives remains in the Instituto Valencia de Don Juan and the handwritten catalogue with the name of the original owners is kept by the American Numismatic Society. This paper is a review of the composition and process of formation of the Cervera collection within the context of Spanish numismatic collectionism of the XIX century.
