During his staying in Berlin in the fifties, Keller reads the legends written by Ludwig Theoboul Kosegarten which praise Christian privation and sacrifice. Inspired by Feuerbach¿s philosophy on the essence of religion, Keller retells some of the tales. But he tranforms them into a non religious and erotic form and refunctions the original trascendental orientation of the tales into the concerns of nature and real world. The present work analyses the new legends by Keller ¿three medieval tales of the Virgin Mary and four conversion stories¿ and underlines the irony as well as the message of a new earthly religion

Negli anni cinquanta, durante il soggiorno berlinese, Gottfried Keller legge le leggende cattolicheggianti di Ludwig Theobul Kosegarten ( Legenden, Berlin 1804) che esaltano il sacrificio e l¿ascesi in nome dei valori del Cielo. Sotto l¿influsso di Feuerbach Keller procede a una riscrittura di alcune di queste leggende cristiane trasformandole in leggende erotiche, mondane e laiche e mutandone l¿orientamento dai valori Della trascendenza a quelli della natura e della realtà terrena. Il saggio analizza le sette leggende laiche kelleriane ¿ tre «Miracoli della Vergine» ambientati nel medioevo e quattro storie di conversione ¿ e ne evidenzia l¿ironia...
